In Vanessa’s words…

Here is the latest in stories of youth whose lives would be effected by passage of the DREAM Act.

I know the meaning of “illegal” and “legal” in my own home.  My sister has citizenship, she was born here.  I am without citizenship.  While I believe this to be unintentional – my parents treat the two of us differently.  I am not asked to fight for my education, but my sister is encouraged to want to go to college.  My sister is lively, loves attention and is the center of our home.  I don’t feel like a part of the picture.  I help my mother take care of our house and I work with my parents in the tobacco during the summer.  I want to go to Cape Fear Community College, but I am afraid to challenge my parents or threaten our situation.

Please email Monica at herald@franciscanaction.org if you have stories we can share.
